Volvo debuts the upgraded 2025 XC90 SUV

Volvo’s 2025 XC90 SUV combines luxury and advanced tech but falls short on electric range updates.

Volvo’s 2025 XC90 SUV debuts with significant upgrades, including a beautifully redesigned interior, a Google-based infotainment system, and enhanced driving dynamics. While the updates elevate the XC90’s appeal, the anticipated improvement in the electric range remains absent.

The XC90’s interior showcases a refined redesign, including a new dashboard, an updated center console, and elegant textile options. At the heart of the cabin is an 11.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, now standard across all 2025-1/2 models, integrated with Volvo’s Google-based infotainment system. This advanced system will also be available to earlier 2022-2024 models via over-the-air updates, ensuring broader accessibility.

The 2025 XC90 offers three powertrains:

  • B5: 247 horsepower
  • B6: 295 horsepower
  • T8 Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV): 455 horsepower

All powertrains come standard with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Buyers can choose from 15 trim levels, with prices ranging from $58,450 to $80,700.

The refreshed XC90 boasts a quieter cabin and improved suspension. Each model also has several critical standard driver-assistance features:

  • Automated emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection
  • Lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist
  • Adaptive cruise control with lane-centering

Combined with the XC90’s six and seven-seat configurations, these features maintain the model’s reputation for delivering Scandinavian luxury and practicality.

Despite the significant upgrades, one notable shortcoming is the PHEV’s unchanged 33-mile electric range, which has not been updated since the 2023 model year.

The refreshed XC90 is labeled a “2025-1/2 model year,” with U.S. availability beginning in Q1 of 2025. Models released in early 2025 will not receive the same updates, making this latest iteration a more appealing option for prospective buyers.

Volvo continues to refine its flagship SUV, blending advanced technology, safety, and timeless Scandinavian design.
