UAW Local 869 has announced a critical strike authorization vote set for Monday. The vote will address health, safety, and contractor grievances at Stellantis’ Warren Stamping Plant. This vote could impact over half a dozen plants spanning from Windsor, Ontario, to Saltillo, Mexico, where vehicles like the Dodge Durango, Chrysler Pacifica, Ram trucks, Jeep Gladiator, and Grand Cherokee are produced.
The union, which stated that approximately 1,100 members would be affected by the vote, listed a number of issues that it claimed the business had neglected to handle, including ventilation fans, flooding, personal protective equipment, bathrooms, oil leaks, cleanliness, and basement flooring and lights.
According to the press release, Romaine McKinney III, President of UAW Local 869, “We are advocating for health and safety at Warren Stamping.” He further added that the facility is prone to flooding during rains due to a leak in the ceiling. Every single pair of work gloves is a prize we must fight for as we handle metal and materials to construct Stellantis’s elite cars. We’re putting an end to the endless list. We can advocate for workplace safety through our union grievance system and plan to take appropriate action when needed.”
This move follows a previous strike approval on April 2 due to contract disagreements.
Stellantis’ spokesperson, Jodi Tinson, affirmed the company’s commitment to providing a safe and healthy work environment to all its employees. The company is discussing open health and safety issues with UAW Local 869 at the Warren Stamping Plant. The goal is to resolve this matter without a work stoppage.”
