In March of 2024, Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) sold 214,894 cars in the United States. This represents a 21.8% increase in both volume and daily selling rate (DSR) when compared to the same month in 2023. Out of the total sales, 78,157 cars were electrified, which accounts for 36.4% of all sales.
For the entire first quarter, Toyota sold 565,098 cars, which is a 17.2% increase on a DSR basis and a 20.3% increase on a volume basis when compared to March 2023. Of the total sales, 206,850 cars sold were electric, accounting for 36.6% of overall sales volume.
The Toyota division sold 184,123 cars in March, a 22.7% increase in volume and DSR. Over the first quarter, the division sold 486,627 vehicles, a 21.3% increase in volume and an 18.1% increase in DSR. Additionally, EV sales saw significant growth, with a 76.4% increase to 177,778 units for the quarter and a 57.0% increase in March alone. Sales of cars, SUVs, and trucks also rose substantially during this period.
Notable performers included the Prius, Prius Prime, Camry HEV, Crown, RAV4 HEV, and the all-electric bZ4X, each posting substantial gains. The RAV4, 4Runner, Sienna, and Tundra similarly experienced notable sales increases, with several models achieving record sales in March and the first quarter.
For the Lexus Division, there was a 15.0% increase in first-quarter sales, setting a record with 78,471 units sold. March sales grew by 16.7% to 30,771 units, with electrified vehicle sales jumping 87.5% in March and 61.1% for the quarter. Lexus saw significant sales increases across several models, including the ES HEV, NX series, RX HEV, and the all-electric RZ, with the new TX model also performing strongly. Both divisions reported record-breaking sales figures for various models during the quarter.
