Stellantis recalls over one million vehicles in the U.S.

The NHTSA has confirmed that dealers will update the radio software at no cost to the vehicle owners.

Detroit automaker Stellantis has issued a safety recall for over one million vehicles in the U.S. due to rear-view camera issues that could increase the risk of a crash. The recall affects vehicles equipped with a radio software that may prevent the rear-view camera’s image from displaying, thereby reducing a driver’s rear visibility.

A representative for Stellantis stated on June 18 that the company has already provided over-the-air updates for the software on more than 735,000 of the affected vehicles and is working to update the rest. A request to accept the update will appear on the media screens for those vehicles that have not been updated.

The recall covers a range of models, including:

Federal regulators emphasized in a letter that the radio software issue could lead to decreased rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has confirmed that dealers will update the radio software at no cost to the vehicle owners.

Stellantis revealed that the recall was initiated following a routine review of customer feedback that identified the radio software issue. The company also mentioned that there have been no reported injuries or accidents related to this software problem to date.
