Stellantis is recalling 317,630 Ram heavy-duty pickup trucks due to a faulty hydraulic control unit that could impact critical braking and stability systems.
The recall affects the 2017-2018 Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 models due to concerns that a defective part could cause failures in the anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), and traction control systems. However, the automaker will provide free repairs to customers with affected vehicles.
The company has also confirmed that regular braking functions remain unaffected, and no one has reported injuries related to this defect. This recall is part of a larger trend in the automaker’s recent safety-related actions.
Last month, the company also recalled 207,000 Jeep and Dodge SUVs in the U.S. due to a computer issue that can disable ABS and ESC safety features. In September, Stellantis expanded its recall efforts globally, addressing a software problem affecting nearly 1.5 million Ram pickups that could also disable the ESC system.
In addition to the recalls, Stellantis is grappling with falling sales, which have contributed to increased inventory on dealer lots and led to layoffs. The company’s net revenues for the last quarter dropped by 27% compared to the same period last year, highlighting the growing pressures on the automaker.
