Porsche is readying for the release of its upcoming 2024 Macan Electric SUV, which the company says is less than two years away from total production.
Journalists got a look at a prototype of the Macan Electric at an event this past week in Italy. The EV, nicknamed “Ludmilla,” was heavily camouflaged with gaffer tape hiding the details and fake exhaust tips on the rear bumper.
The Macan Electric will be built on a new platform called PPE, or Premium Platform Electric, which Porsche says will offer better handling, extended range, and more power. It will feature a new battery pack with roughly 100kWh split over 12 modules. The battery pack will be backed by an 800-volt architecture that allows charging from a 5% battery to 80% in 25 minutes.
The Macan will also feature 600 horsepower and 740 lb-ft of torque. It includes a staggered tire setup, with the back wheels measuring up to 22 inches in diameter. Because of its dual motor setup, the Macan can deliver torque between the front and rear and will feature rear steering.
Porsche has not yet offered a range capability for the Macan’s battery but says it will be “a lot more” than the previous Taycan model, which claims just under 250 miles. The Macan will also include a usable “frunk” but will not offer additional regenerative braking or one-pedal driving.
Porsche says it will likely use the new PPE platform on several upcoming vehicles but did not offer any details. The automaker said the first deliveries of the electric crossover will begin in early 2024, and an official unveiling is expected sometime next year.
