Pilot Company, General Motors (GM), and EVgo Inc. have hit a significant milestone in their mission to expand the nationwide electric vehicle (EV) charging network. Their collaboration has led to the opening of more than 130 locations across over 25 states, connecting major U.S. travel corridors.
The initiative aims to meet the growing demand for reliable charging infrastructures as EV adoption grows in the U.S. In 2024, EV sales reached 1.3 million, with a 15% year-over-year increase in Q4 alone. General Motors also saw incredible growth, with its EV sales surging 50% in the same period.
Pilot, GM, and Evgo plan to install up to 2,000 fast-charging stalls across 500 Pilot and Flying J locations to support this demand. This expansion will give EV drivers confidence for long-distance travel by offering reliable charging stations along major highways, particularly heading into peak travel seasons. Several key routes have strategically placed charging stations, including:
- I-75 from Michigan and Georgia Minneapolis to Milwaukee
- Detroit to Cleveland
- San Antonio to Houston
- Dallas to Nashville
Each charging station is equipped with EVgo chargers, which provide fast-charging capabilities and deliver up to 350kW. Most drivers are able to recharge their vehicle in as little as 15 minutes so that they can get back on the road.
Beyond charging, each station has premium amenities to elevate the customer experience, including:
- Expansive lounges for resting
- Free Wi-Fi
- On-site restaurants
- Grab-and-go food and beverage options
- Overhead canopies
- Pull-through charging stall to accommodate towing vehicles
Each station is open 24/7 with a round-the-clock staff to provide convenience and reliability for all EV drivers.
