Nikola Corp. announced on Tuesday that it will partner with ChargePoint Holdings, an EV charging company, to help speed up the deployment of the infrastructure needed for its commercial electric vehicles.
The electric truck maker said ChargePoint’s products will reduce the time needed to build critical infrastructure projects designed to help its customers implement electric fleets in their businesses. The infrastructure would include managing the charging of their vehicles, planning schedules, and streamlining delivery routes.
Last week, Nikola said scaling charging infrastructure for fleets was a challenge that would be exacerbated by customers’ reluctance to invest in infrastructure development projects. The company said these challenges would likely slow the adoption of its Tre battery electric semi-truck by those businesses.
Nikola also announced it would miss its target of delivering 300 vehicles this year. The company did not offer a new delivery target, instead claiming macroeconomic uncertainty made it too difficult to see the future.
Nikola has already placed orders for E-Skids, a fast-charging solution developed by ChargePoint. Deliveries are expected to begin by the end of the month. No financial details of the new partnership were disclosed.
