Tesla is recalling 9,136 Model X SUVs due to a potential safety risk involving the roof trim, which could detach and increase the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The issue stems from the front and center roof cosmetic trim pieces, which may have been adhered to without primer. Over time, this could lead to the trim separating from the vehicle, posing a road hazard.
This recall represents a rare physical recall for Tesla, a company known for addressing many issues through over-the-air software updates. The affected vehicles will be inspected, and any necessary repairs will be made at no cost to the owners.
The recall is part of a broader trend for Tesla, which has already recalled nearly 2.6 million vehicles in the first half of this year alone, trailing only Ford, which has recalled about 3.6 million vehicles in the U.S. during the same period. Tesla owners are advised to have their vehicles inspected to ensure safety.
