The new Kia EV6 GT should be hitting dealership lots in the coming weeks. While the automaker has built up excitement for the vehicle over the course of 2022, its last marketing push seems to be directed at answering customer questions. Journalists were allowed to review the vehicle after participating in a late year Las Vegas test drive, allowing them to get first-hand experience with the car.
Overall, most seem impressed with the car’s design and features. The EV6 GT model comes with a 576 horsepower powertrain and a speedier recharge time than others in Kia’s lineup, allowing the battery to reach 80% capacity in 18 minutes with a fast charger. However, while the vehicle promises comfortable travel, with specs sure to delight any car enthusiast, it is still plagued by the same issues facing every EV manufacturer: range and price.

The EV6 GT actually falls behind other major brands in range, only lasting for 310 miles maximum, while other comparative models can last an additional 20 miles. While the difference is not staggering, the limitation is likely to weigh on the minds of consumers suffering “range anxiety.” Thankfully, the price also lands behind most Kia competitors, with an MSRP of $62,965, roughly $3,000 less than the market average of $66,000. Unfortunately. it is unclear if the bargain will earn the attention of buyers who have so far put off vehicle purchases throughout 2022.
The EV market is still quite small, although its enthusiasm is greater than ever. However, as more models arrive many of the technology and financial limitations keeping consumers at home are likely to dissipate. Drivers and dealers should both see the EV6 GT as a good step in the right direction.
