General Motors (GM) has resumed its 2024 Blazer EV sales after an 11-week halt to fix software flaws. In an effort to boost sales, the automaker has reduced the starting price of their vehicles to $50,195, which is $6,520 lower than the original price. Moreover, the car is now fully eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit.
Earlier, GM had to stop its EV sales in late December due to media and customer complaints of issues with the infotainment and charging systems, including the vehicle’s inability to charge its battery.
Baris Cetinok, the Vice President of Product, Software, and Services at GM, has confirmed that all software-related issues have been resolved without needing external modifications. The issues included minor coding errors and problems with the car’s compatibility with specific public EV chargers. According to Cetinok, there was no single cause for all the problems. Instead, a combination of unique circumstances and scenarios led to these issues. Moreover, Cetinok mentioned that although rare, many issues caused disruptions, prompting the manufacturer to implement a stop-sale to prevent any problems for future buyers.
GM used a “testing matrix” that included physical on-road testing nationwide and continually rewriting and testing the code to identify and fix the issues. According to GM, the procedures used to address the Blazer EV have strengthened the software quality validation testing that will be done on newer models.
Following early consumer feedback, GM enhanced or modified several features and corrected the software bugs. The cars now come with updated driver information graphics, which include a battery percentage display and customizable colorful ambient lighting.
Additionally, GM has decided not to reinstate Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for the Blazer or any other future models. Third-party add-ons that only overlay a screen are less functional and provide a less satisfying user experience than GM’s apps that integrate with the rest of the car’s internal systems.
The base price of the available 2024 Blazer EVs is now $50,195, which is $6,520 less than the initial August sale price. The beginning price of the more costly “RS” models of the Chevrolet Blazer EV will drop by $5,620 to $54,595 for all-wheel drive or $56,170 for rear-wheel drive.
Further information about the other models’ costs, including a trim level that starts under $50,000, will be released closer to the time the cars go on sale later this year.
