GM partners with Barclays to launch new GM Rewards credit cards for U.S. customers

The GM credit card program will continue to operate under the Mastercard network.

General Motors and Barclays announced a new long-term credit card partnership on Monday. The partnership allows customers to earn and redeem reward points for purchasing new Buicks, Cadillacs, and other GM vehicles, including electric models. The partnership marks a significant step for GM as it enhances its customer loyalty program by offering new incentives through branded credit cards.

Starting next summer, Barclays will become the exclusive issuer of the GM Rewards Mastercard and GM Business Mastercard, replacing the program’s current credit card provider. This agreement will enable Barclays to acquire the credit card program’s receivables, further expanding its footprint in the U.S. market.

Company-branded credit cards are a strategic win for both GM and Barclays. They leverage customer loyalty while offering attractive perks such as cashback and rewards points. This deal is part of Barclays’ growing portfolio of credit card partnerships with major brands, which currently includes American Airlines and Gap.

The GM credit card program will continue to operate under the Mastercard network, ensuring seamless service for existing cardholders while offering new opportunities for GM customers to earn points toward vehicle purchases and other perks.
