General Motors (GM) has appointed Barak Turovsky as its first Chief Artificial Intelligence (AI) Officer, marking a major step in the automaker’s strategy to expand AI integration across its vehicles and business operations.
Turovsky previously led AI initiatives at Cisco and was a key figure in AI development at Google. He will join GM’s software and services engineering team, reporting to Senior Vice President Dave Richardson. His role will focus on enhancing AI capabilities within GM’s vehicle lineup and broader operational processes.
The Detroit automaker has already leveraged AI to improve key business functions, including selecting EV charger locations, optimizing dealer vehicle orders, and streamlining manufacturing. Turovsky’s appointment signals GM’s commitment to accelerating these efforts as it navigates the evolving automotive landscape.
Nevertheless, GM’s leadership team has seen a growing emphasis on software and AI, with the recent promotions of former Apple executives Dave Richardson and Baris Cetinok to oversee the automaker’s software division.
Overall, by strengthening its AI expertise, GM aims to enhance vehicle features, improve operational efficiency, and elevate the overall customer experience across its electric, internal combustion, and autonomous vehicle segments.
