General Motors has started producing the 2024 GMC Hummer SUV

General Motors began production of the 2024 GMC Hummer SUV, the second electric vehicle in the Hummer lineup, on Jan 30, 2023. The automaker forecasts the vehicle will begin to appear on dealer lots later in the first quarter.

As the first Hummer SUV left the production line at Factory Zero in Detroit, GM’s Global Vice President of Buick GMC Duncan Aldred said, GMC has about 90,000 reservations for the Hummer EVs. 60,000 of the reservations are for the truck and the remaining for the SUV.

Ford promised to reduce prices for the Mustang Mach-E after Tesla announced broad price cuts, but those price cuts won’t be happening any time soon for the Hummer EV pickup.

Additionally, according to GM, only the Lordstown, Ohio, Ultium Cells LLC battery plant is now in service. Although the facility has the ability to match GM’s demand for battery production, Aldred stated that “until the two other Ultium Cells Plants it is building become operational, GM still requires strategic planning as to which EV gets those battery cells.”

On the other hand, the 2024 Hummer EV SUV has a starting price of $79,995 for the EV2 trim, an EV2X trim price of $89,995, a tri-motor EV3X model price of $99,995, and an Edition 1 price of $105,595, according to Kelly Blue Book. Whereas, the 2023 Hummer EV pickup has a base price of $98,400.

Currently, the Edition 1 of the SUV will all come with a matt green finish. As the model year progress, more colors will be added to both the Hummer SUV and the Hummer EV pickup.

Over the weekend at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, GMC sold the first production 2024 Hummer Edition 1 SUV for $500,000. All of the money was donated to Tread Lightly!, a charity that promotes outdoor enjoyment via stewardship and education programs.
