Ford is celebrating the Mustang’s 60th birthday next month with a special event and a new trim level for dedicated fans.
The Ford Mustang will hit its 60th anniversary on Wednesday, April 17, long after its reveal at the 1964 World’s Fair of New York. The vehicle has seen immense change in the years since, becoming a legendary model for its unique blend of sports and performance.
First, Ford will celebrate the new era of the Mustang with a special Anniversary Package to be showcased on the same date as its debut 60 years ago. This new edition will be unveiled at 5 p.m. EST during a special event at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, where the automaker will present previous Mustang iterations, take attendees on thrilling drift rides, and host various exhibits focused on both the model’s legacy and Ford’s history of car making. Those who are unable to make it to the speedway on April 17 will be able to catch the unveiling of the Anniversary Package via livestream.
While it has remained silent on the new edition’s enhancements, Ford plans to launch an over-the-air update for current Mustang owners celebrating the 60th anniversary, also scheduled for Apri 17.
Much like the Mustang, Ford is an automaker with immense pull in the U.S., given its extensive history, powerful branding, and enviable sales numbers. Its grip on the pickup market remains tighter than ever, even in the electric segment, where heavy-hitters like the Rivian R1T and Tesla Cybertruck have started to grab consumers’ attention. Ford is projected to see sales volume rise 6.5% over the previous year by the end of the first quarter, taking third place in overall U.S. car sales.
