Ford offers dealers up to $22,500 to move F-150 Lightning inventory in new pilot program

The Detroit automaker has already introduced several incentives for the F-150 Lightning this year.

Ford is incentivizing dealers to move its F-150 Lightning electric trucks. Through a new pilot program, dealers can earn up to $22,500 to replenish their F-150 Lightning stock from Ford’s Retail Replenishment Centers (RRCs), which aim to expedite vehicle delivery. This initiative, running from October 15 to November 15, 2024, is part of Ford’s broader strategy to streamline electric vehicle (EV) sales and distribution.

Under the program, dealers will receive $1,000 for each 2024 F-150 Lightning restocked from an RRC. If they unload more than nine trucks, the incentive increases to $1,500 per vehicle, with a cap of 15 units, allowing for maximum earnings of $22,500. However, the offer excludes the base F-150 Lightning Pro, which is no longer available for retail.

This pilot program aligns with Ford CEO Jim Farley’s plans to enhance the EV purchasing experience, announced during Capital Markets Day in May. Farley emphasized goals like transparent pricing, faster delivery times, and improved customer service. The RRCs are designed to deliver EVs to customers within ten days, helping to speed up the buying process.

While the program aims to test the logistics of Ford’s new replenishment system and boost dealer engagement, it could have mixed results for consumers. Some dealerships may reduce prices to clear inventory quickly, while others could see limited stock, potentially leaving fewer options for buyers on the lot. The program may also help Ford move 2024 models ahead of the launch of the 2025 F-150 Lightning.

The Detroit automaker has already introduced several incentives for the F-150 Lightning this year. Ford offers the 2024 model with 0% APR financing for 60 months. Plus, through the “Ford Power Promise,” buyers receive a complimentary Level 2 home charger and installation. They can also take advantage of a $2,000 cash incentive that can be combined with the 0% financing offer.

For consumers, the current lineup of the 2024 F-150 Lightning offers various trims with competitive range and pricing, starting with the XLT at $62,995 (240-mile range) and going up to the Platinum Black at $92,995 (300-mile range), excluding destination fees. These incentives and new logistical strategies aim to keep Ford competitive in the growing electric truck market.
