Ford is enhancing the 2025 Maverick with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option for its hybrid powertrain, responding to a major customer request since the compact pickup’s debut three years ago. This addition, along with a larger center screen, new technology, and updated design features, aims to sustain the truck’s sales growth, particularly among first-time Ford buyers. Maverick sales have surged 81% in the first half of the year, prompting Ford to increase production as hybrids become increasingly vital to its lineup.
The 2025 Maverick will start at $27,890, including shipping, a significant increase from its initial launch price. Order banks open on August 1, with deliveries expected later this year. James Gilpin, Maverick brand manager, highlighted that customer feedback was crucial to the new model’s features.
The AWD option with the standard 2.5-liter hybrid engine, generating 191 hp and 155 pound-feet of torque, will be available on the XL, XLT, and Lariat trims. The truck will also offer a trailer tow package, allowing it to haul up to 4,000 pounds. The AWD hybrid version is expected to achieve 40 mpg in the city, while the standard front-wheel-drive hybrid configuration aims for up to 42 mpg.
Additionally, the 2025 Maverick retains the optional 2-liter EcoBoost engine, producing 238 hp and 227 pound-feet of torque. The Tremor off-road package has been upgraded to a trim level for the new model year.
Inside, the Maverick now features a standard 13.2-inch touchscreen, 5 inches larger than the previous model. It is equipped with the Sync 4 infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility. The Lariat and Tremor trims include trailer hitch assist and trailer backup assist as standard features. New accent colors and materials vary by trim.
The exterior updates include a new grille, bumper, headlamps, and a new Black Package featuring a unique grille, black roof, black badges, and 19-inch gloss black wheels. The Maverick continues to offer a 4.5-foot “flexbed,” versatile for DIY projects, with slots for 2×4 lumber and a multiposition tailgate accommodating up to 18 full sheets of half-inch 4-by-8-foot plywood. An available 110-volt outlet adds further utility.
Ford has expressed satisfaction with the Maverick’s market performance since its late 2021 debut, noting that 60 percent of buyers are switching from other brands and segments, such as small SUVs and compact sedans. The Maverick’s success has even influenced competitors like Toyota to consider similar offerings.
