Finding balance between customer pay work and reconditioning – Mike Boyd | iRecon

Today on Inside Automotive, anchor Jim Fitzpatrick is joined by Mike Boyd, Founder of vAuto’s iRecon platform. After running used car departments for years, Boyd founded the software solution iRecon, to solve some of the inefficiencies that he grappled with every day. iRecon caught the eye of Cox Automotive and is now part of vAuto and their suite of operational solutions for dealerships.

In this segment, Boyd talks about the push and pull that is often experienced in the service department and how dealerships are challenged more than ever with balancing customer pay work and reconditioning work.

50% of Americans expect to drive more in 2022 than in previous years, which means that service appointments will likely increase as well. With auto technician and supply shortages, it is difficult for the reconditioning department to manage this increase. On top of this, 58% of car dealerships are experiencing parts delays. Car dealers need a platform to hold their recon team accountable and deliver on commitments made to the customer.

Staffing shortages and tech shortages will be with us for some time, says Boyd. The important thing is to understand the capacity you have and then manage its efficiency. iRecon keeps everyone on the same page and eliminates the confusion of traditional recon management. By keeping recon timelines more efficient, car dealers have more time, energy, and resources devoted to other areas of the business.
