After DeLorean Motor Company initially said its new electric vehicle would be revealed during the 2022 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August, the automaker has now announced it will be showing the car at the end of this month.
The company posted an obscured photo of the much-anticipated “EVolved” sports car, which will reportedly look more different than initially expected. The assumption was that the company would build the new EV to look very similar to its DMC-12 vehicle that was featured in the Back to the Future franchise, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with the “teasers” the company has released.
DeLorean has hinted the sports car will still have the classic gullwing doors and some of the cosmetic details. Still, it will probably be shaped more like modern vehicles instead of the “angled” shape like the original vehicle that was produced from 1975 to 1982. Not much else is known about the car yet, including details on what kind of powertrain it will offer.
It is important to note that the DeLorean Motor Company is not the same company that created the original DMC-12. That company filed for bankruptcy in 1982. The former company’s Vice President, James Espey, told AutoBlog that the new company is “a clean sheet of paper design.” Although the owner of the original DeLorean company “holds an ownership stake in the new company,” he has no involvement in the new company’s management and operations.
The public can register at DeLorean.com to see the new DMC-12 a day early.
