Jim Ellis, a well known face in the auto industry, passed away last week on December 9, 2022.
The family reported that he died peacefully at his Duluth residence at the age of 90. The father had only recently buried his son, James “Jimmy” Edward Ellis, in November. The two are survived by many friends and family members, including Jim’s wife of 69 years, Billie.
Many members of the automotive community knew Jim best as the founder of Jim Ellis Automotive Group, one of the most influential retail organizations in the South. As a business leader, Jim expanded his dealership business across 20 locations in Georgia, providing jobs to 1,500 employees.
However, many may be unfamiliar with his charitable contributions. Jim believed in giving back, and used his charity, the Jim and Billie Ellis Foundation, to provide over $50 million in donations to programs helping their community. In keeping with Jim’s generosity, the family urges those sending their condolences to consider donating to Atlanta Mission, Norcross Cooperative Ministries or Eagle Ranch.
Funeral services for Jim will be held at Johns Creek Baptist Church, where Jim attended for 15 years, this Wednesday starting at 11 a.m. His body will be laid to rest at Peachtree Memorial Park that evening.
