About 3,900 United Auto Workers members employed by Mack Trucks went on strike this morning after most members rejected a tentative agreement struck by the union and firm last week. According to the union, 73% of UAW members rejected the proposed agreement. Used car prices held steady in the third quarter after dropping rapidly in the second, according to Cox Automotive’s latest Manheim report. Rising values in September helped buoy used car prices throughout Q3. Preowned vehicles cost 1% more by the end of the month than they did in August, although the increase failed to keep prices from dropping slightly from the same point last year. Read More

Online used-car dealer Shift Technologies is closing operations and filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to a company press release. Founded in 2014, California-based Shift Technologies sold preowned vehicles throughout the U.S. via the internet. Like other online used-car dealers such as Carvana, the company faced considerable challenges during the COVID pandemic due to severe fluctuations in used-car demand and prices. Read More
