How safe will cars with no steering wheels & pedals actually be?
Ever since the first car was created, people have been driving vehicles with steering wheels and pedals. Now, GM believes next year will be a great opportunity to introduce the roads to a car that has no steering wheel or pedals. Instead, it has several interior screens that passengers can use to communicate with the vehicle. Dan Ammann, President of GM, was on with CNBC’s Squawk Box and was asked how that would work around the current infrastructure, where other vehicles with steering wheels and pedals still exist. Honda proves why humans are needed just as much as machines are
As much as some people want to talk about vehicles like they’re robots, a new article from Bloomberg says the opposite. In the article, Tom Shoupe, COO of Honda’s Ohio Manufacturing Unit, says, “we can’t find anything to take the place of the human touch and of human senses like sight, hearing, and smell.” Bloomberg also says that Toyota uses just a handful of robots on the Camry final assembly line at its plant in Kentucky with no plans to add more.
