General Motors (GM) and EVgo, one of the largest public fast charging networks in the U.S., are taking their partnership to new heights by announcing the deployment of 400 flagship fast charging stations across major U.S. metropolitan areas. These stations, equipped with 350kW fast chargers and user-friendly features like pull-through stations, canopies, and security cameras, aim to address the growing demand for reliable and convenient electric vehicle (EV) charging.
These flagship stations will be strategically located in high-traffic areas with amenities such as shopping and dining options, offering EV drivers a superior charging experience. Each site will feature up to 20 charging stalls, with some key locations providing even more, ensuring critical charging hubs in key regions, including California, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, New York, and Texas. The stations will be co-branded by EVgo and GM Energy, reinforcing the two companies’ commitment to expanding customer-centric charging solutions.
Dennis Kish, President of EVgo, mentioned that the future of EV charging will be more customer-focused and faster. He stated that their collaboration with GM aims to make EV charging both convenient and reliable.
The first flagship station is expected to open in 2025, leveraging EVgo’s innovative prefabrication techniques to speed up construction and enable future expansion. GM and EVgo are also continuing their efforts to build out a total of 2,850 fast charging stalls, with a significant portion dedicated to these flagship locations.
GM Energy Vice President Wade Sheffer emphasized the importance of providing seamless charging access for GM customers. He states, “Through our ongoing collaboration with EVgo, we are committed to delivering innovative charging solutions that meet the evolving needs of EV drivers across the country.”
This announcement builds on the companies’ progress, as they recently celebrated the opening of their 1,000th fast charging stall and aim to install the 2,000th by the end of 2024.
