The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced today that it is initiating a recall query regarding approximately 51,500 Volkswagen America electric vehicles (EVs) due to concerns about doors opening while driving. This investigation focuses on Volkswagen’s ID.4 SUVs, manufactured between 2021 and 2023.
The NHTSA has received 12 complaints from consumers reporting that the doors of these vehicles occasionally open without warning while the car is in motion. Despite these reports, no injuries or fatalities have been linked to the issue.
These vehicles were previously subject to a recall to address water seepage from the doors. The new NHTSA inquiry will examine the effectiveness of the previous recall remedies and determine whether further action is necessary to ensure the safety of the affected vehicles.
