Former “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno is recovering from serious burns he suffered in a garage fire over the weekend in Los Angeles.
The 72-year-old comedian and television host made a statement to NBC News on Monday, saying, “I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am ok. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet.”
The classic car enthusiast canceled a Las Vegas performance scheduled for Sunday night as well as all his other engagements for the week.
Leno was working in his garage on Saturday when he got caught in an accidental flash fire that started in one of his vehicles. He was taken to the Grossman Burn Center in West Hills and suffered burns to the left side of his face, according to a person close to Leno. The injuries did not affect his eyes or his ear. A source said Leno is “physically ok” but confirmed there was “some damage.”
Leno is the host of CNBC’s “Jay Leno’s Garage,” which has been on the air since 2015. He is known for his extensive collection of classic and high-end vehicles. Leno hosted “The Tonight Show” for more than 30 years before leaving in 2014.
